KNOWLYMPICS 2018

Since KNOW-HOW3000 is all about sharing and learning from experiences, we have brought the KNOWLYMPICS into being. Our goal was to create an opportunity for our network to find a different, more dynamic approach to knowledge management. That’s the reason why we came up with KNOWLYMPICS – our Knowledge Management Games.

They were held in summer 2018 for the third time. 9 organisations from 5 different countries joined in and shared 10 highly valuable experiences with you and the HORIZONT3000 Knowledge network. The participating organisations have documented their experiences and thereby promoted a learning process within their organisations. While documenting and systematising experiences, a process of reflection is triggered and questions like what has worked and what hasn’t and – most importantly – why are answered. This is were gaining knowledge begins and this is where KNOW-HOW3000 wants to dock.

The experiences shared within the scope of this year’s games range from microcredit saving schemes in East Africa to the impacts of climate change on the rural population in Central America. Among the submissions there were 2 negative experiences (Learning from Failure) and 8 positive experiences (Good Practice). As we wanted to value the special effort it requires to share a negative experience or failure, we decided to draw 1 winner among the Learning from Failure Experiences and 2 winners among the Good Practice Experiences.

For the prize draw we were supported by the Managing Director of HORIZONT3000, Erwin Eder and the Chairwoman of the Executive Board, Sigrun Zwanzger. We thank you both for your support of the Knowledge Management Games!

Ready to get to know the lucky winners?

THIS YEAR’S KNOWLYMPICS WINNERS ARE:

In the category Learning from Failure:

Fundación Segundo Montes – El Salvador

In the category Good Practice:

Caritas Kiyinda – Mityana – Uganda

and

BlueEnergy/Bluefields Indian and Caribbean University – Nicaragua

CONGRATULATIONS and thank you for making the games possible!

Each winner organisation was awarded a 500€ cash prize. The prize money is supposed to be inverted in Knowledge Management or Capacity Strengthening purposes or any other measures that support the work of their projects. Last year, the prizes were used for trainings in monitoring and evaluation, exchange visits and a laptop to support information documentation.

We are very happy about the results of this year’s games and would like to thank all of the participants, because after all:

“[…] it is a very important initiative that gives us the possibility to connect us better” (MIRIAM, Guatemala, KNOWLYMPICS 2017).
Within the upcoming weeks, we are going to prepare and upload One-Page-Presentations and In-Detail Documents about this year’s experiences. Once uploaded, we will let you know and make sure you don’t miss any of the important lessons provided by the participant organisations.
In the meantime, don’t forget to check out former experiences from other partners regarding Rural Development, Human Rights and Education. Just click on one of the buttons below and learn a new lesson:
