our KNOW-HOW3000 Knowledge Sharing Games Are Back

Dear colleagues in our Partner Organisations,

In our KNOW-HOW3000 Knowledge Management Programme we have developed an Experience Capitalization Process in order to promote learning and sharing processes among our partners.  For this purpose we produce one-page presentations (“Good Practices” and “Learnings from Failure” at a Glance) as well as detailed descriptions (“Good Practices” and “Learnings from Failure” in Detail) based on the experiences and the knowledge provided by Partner Organisations, and share them on our knowledge platform.

In order to collect these experiences, we invented the KNOW-HOW3000 Knowledge Sharing Games: our famous KNOWLYMPICS!

Delighted by the great outcomes and success of the first four editions of KNOWLYMPICS, we have decided to further elaborate our knowledge sharing game and would like to invite YOU to participate in our

5th KNOWLYMPICS edition
with special focus on
CSO ENGAGEMENT IN POLICY DIALOGUE

If you have a positive experience (good practice) or negative experiences (learning from failure) related to policy dialogue or advocacy work –this year’s KNOWLYMPICS is for you! This can, for example, include experiences in

  • engaging a certain group or decision makers on a policy issue;
  • setting a policy agenda by awareness raising, media engagement, lobbying etc.;
  • collaborating within a network to back up a policy cause;
  • supporting the formulation or review of a policy;
  • or playing a role in the implementation of a certain policy.

Not only will you have the chance to win a PRIZE for your organisation but:

As usual, we will be drawing winner organisations among all submissions that will receive prizes between 500 and 1000 Euros. Prizes can be used for Knowledge Management Purposes according to the needs of the winning organisations. This can be an exchange visit to another organisation, training for your staff, equipment for the office or any other material prize that can be used in the organisation’s daily or project based work.

Remember that all participants win, as every experience will be published on the KNOW-HOW3000 platform and shared within our knowledge network.

Why Policy Dialogue?

The inclusion of CSOs in policy shaping spaces is a huge advantage for a positive policy change, as it promotes democracy and inclusive societies by ensuring a stronger reflection of the population’s needs, especially of the most marginalised, in national and local policies. By representing and raising the voices of marginalised sectors of society, they can be important advocates in holding governments accountable to their duties, and also in supporting governments in defining, implementing and reviewing adopted policies.

At the same time CSOs often face a series of challenges when it comes to policy dialogue and advocacy work, these may include adverse political contexts, lack of networking and coordination with others, limited capacities and resources for a long-lasting policy dialogue strategy, weak evidence base and/or weak communication approaches, among others. This is why we are convinced that there is much to learn from each other within our global partner community and want to step in that pool of experiences.

How to participate?

When selecting your experience, please consider the following criteria:

  • You are a current project partner (either Technical Assistance or financing project) of HORIZONT3000 or our Member Organisations.
  • The experience must refer to a practice, method, strategy or approach your organisation has applied in its policy dialogue or advocacy work: Check out this video and/or the case studies at the end of this manual for further inspiration (only available in English), as well as knowledge products on other topics here.
  • The experience must be considered potentially relevant for other organisations in our knowledge network. The most important thing is the possibility to learn from it! Negative experiences & failures can be part of successful project work and teach us a lot! Therefore, we especially encourage the submission of relevant negative experiences.

Submission Deadline: March 5, 2021

All questionnaires that are presented in a comprehensive and understandable way and submitted by the deadline will be considered.

We are sure you have many stories and experiences with policy dialogue worth sharing that others can learn from. This is why we are very much looking forward to receiving your submissions!

Petra Herout

Petra coordinates the Knowledge Management Team in Vienna and is currently Sector Coordinator for Rural Development – Natural Resource Management. She has been involved in developing KNOW-HOW3000 since its beginnings and is eager to share some stories with you about the WHY and HOW of KNOW-HOW3000 and Knowledge Management at HORIZONT3000. Petra is passionate about methods for experience learning and has the vision that HORIZONT3000 is a true learning organisation in the long run. She is always happy to learn from other people’s experiences!
